Mystery and Investigation: The Case of Miguel Mack
MERRITT, British Columbia, Canada — The disappearance and death of Miguel Mack, a 24-year-old Merritt resident, has remained a haunting mystery since early 2023. What began as a missing-persons case evolved into an active homicide investigation that continues to this day with law enforcement renewing calls for information and urging anyone with knowledge to come forward.
Disappearance and Search Efforts
Mack was last seen on February 27, 2023, and was reported missing by his family several days later on March 3. An extensive search followed, involving ground crews, police dogs, aerial surveillance and drones, and significant efforts by volunteers and family members. Despite these efforts, months passed with no confirmed sightings or reliable leads.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), particularly the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, treated the case as suspicious early on. Initial public statements from law enforcement emphasized concern and the need for community assistance.
Discovery of Remains
After a lengthy search, Mack’s body was found in April 2025 by a civilian in the Merritt area, bringing an end to the missing-person aspect of the case but opening a new chapter in the homicide investigation. The BC Coroner’s Service confirmed the identification, and the case was actively taken up by major crimes investigators.
Even with the discovery of his remains, authorities have not publicly confirmed cause of death nor named suspects, and details around how, where, or why Mack was killed remain largely undisclosed. Police have consistently maintained that liability for his death is being treated as a homicide investigation, and that suspects or persons with knowledge have not yet fully cooperated.
Continued Investigation and Public Appeals
On the third anniversary of his disappearance in February 2026, the RCMP renewed public pleas for information, underscoring that the case remains a priority for investigators. Officers stated their belief that important information may be in the hands of individuals who have not yet come forward.
Mack’s family also continues to lead community efforts, including memorial walks and public outreach, to keep awareness alive and assist authorities in breaking the case.
Current Status of the Case
As of early 2026, the death of Miguel Mack remains under active investigation by the BC RCMP’s Southeast District Major Crime Unit. Authorities have not publicly disclosed suspects or charges, and the community is being encouraged to provide any information that might assist in determining what happened. People with tips are urged to contact law enforcement through the RCMP tip line.
The story continues to be one of unanswered questions, community concern, and relentless efforts by investigators and Mack’s loved ones to find accountability and closure.

Always praying for answers….
Three years after his disappearance and close to one year after his body was found, the death of Miguel Mack remains a mystery.
The Merritt resident was last seen on February 27, 2023, before being reported missing by family on March 3. Over the next few years, the search for Mack involved police dogs, aerial services, forensic identification specialists utilizing drones, and family volunteers combing Merritt and the area before his remains were found in June of last year.
And though foul play is suspected, family and friends remain without many of the answers they have sought for years.
Now, on the third anniversary of the 24-year-old’s last sighting, RCMP are renewing calls for more information in hopes of finding closure.
“The investigation into Miguel Mack’s death continues to remain a priority,” said Acting Unit Commander for the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit Sergeant Robert Kee.
“Investigators are of the belief that there are individuals with knowledge of Mack’s death that have not yet spoken with police. We continue to urge these people to come forward.”
In what has become a yearly tradition, the Mack family will be hosting a community walk on February 27 at 4p.m. in memory of their lost family member.
The walk will start at the 2000 block of Coutlee Avenue, continue to Orme Street, and end at the Civic Centre. All members of the community are invited and encouraged to come out and show their support.![]()
