Independent Detective Case Search

How to Use This Search Open instructions and search examples

Start with one broad search option, then add more details only when needed. Some menus are connected and will automatically update based on your selections.

Search by Name or Keyword

Enter a person’s name, case title, location, or another word that may appear on the case page.

Example: Enter Jennifer Kesse to search for pages connected to her name.

Search by Case Number

Enter the unique number assigned to the case. Type only the number without the words “Case” or the number symbol.

Example: To find Case #184, enter 184.

Search by Date

Begin with a decade. After selecting a decade, the Year menu will show only years connected to cases from that decade. Selecting a year will narrow the available months, and selecting a month will narrow the available days.

Example: Select 1990s, then 1993, then July. The results will show only cases matching those selections.

Search by Country and State

Choose a country first. The State or Province menu will then display only locations connected to cases from that country.

Example: Select USA, then Pennsylvania.

Search by County and City

County is an optional filter for United States cases. After selecting the USA and a state, you may choose a county or go directly to the City menu.

For cases in Canada or Australia, County will not appear. Select the country, province or state, and then choose an available city.

Example: Select USA, Texas, and then either a county, a city, or both.

Search by Age

Select an Age Range first. The Exact Age menu will then show only ages connected to cases within that range.

Example: Select 21–30 Years Old, then choose an exact age such as 24.

Search by Gender or Ethnicity

Gender and ethnicity are independent filters. They may be used alone or combined with a date, location, age, or case type.

Example: Select a gender and ethnicity to view cases matching both selections.

Search by Case Type

Use the Case Type menu to browse categories such as missing persons, homicides, suspected homicides, or other classifications available in the archive.

Example: Select Missing Person and Canada to view matching cases.
For the clearest results: Begin with one or two filters and add more only when needed. Every selected option must match the same case, so unrelated selections may return no results.
Your search stays open: Case files open in a new browser tab, allowing you to return to the search page without losing your current filters or results.

Recent Additions to the Archive

This section highlights the most recently added case files within the Criminal Case Database. While we regularly update the archive as additional cases are researched and documented, we recognize that every entry represents a real person, a real family, and a tragedy that should never have occurred.

In an ideal world, there would be no new names to add. Our hope is that this database serves not to celebrate new additions, but to preserve the stories of victims, assist researchers, and help ensure these cases are never forgotten.
