Jon Jacob “Jake” Morgan: Wisconsin Missing Person Case Leads to Homicide Charges Six Years Later

Jon Jacob “Jake” Morgan Jr. was 22 years old when he disappeared from the King/Waupaca area of Wisconsin on March 6, 2020. For nearly six years, his family searched for answers while investigators pursued a case in which Morgan seemingly vanished without leaving an obvious trail.

In February 2026, the investigation changed dramatically. Prosecutors charged Desiree Osman in connection with Morgan’s death, alleging that Morgan died after she provided him with heroin and that his body was subsequently concealed. Morgan’s remains have still not been recovered.

The Disappearance of Jon “Jake” Morgan

On Thursday, March 5, 2020, Morgan finished his shift at an A&W restaurant in Wautoma at approximately 5:30 p.m. He received a ride home to Weyauwega and was later picked up by a former classmate.

Investigators determined that Morgan eventually traveled to a residence in King, an unincorporated community west of Waupaca.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 6, Morgan and the woman he was with were reportedly captured on surveillance footage at a gas station in the Waupaca area. Investigators believed they subsequently returned to the King residence.

Morgan made a telephone call at approximately 3:28 a.m. to arrange transportation to work later that morning. About 45 minutes later, he sent what would become his final known text message. Another message reached his phone at approximately 5:15 a.m., but investigators determined it was never opened.

The Last Known Hours

The original account provided to investigators was that Morgan left the King residence by himself on foot at approximately 8:00 a.m.

His phone reportedly continued communicating with a tower in the King area and last pinged there at approximately 9:00 a.m.

Morgan was supposed to report to his job at the A&W in Wautoma at approximately 10:00 a.m. He never arrived and did not call his employer. He also never returned to collect his final paycheck.

Morgan was reported missing on March 8, 2020.

His sudden disappearance concerned his family because he apparently left behind the ordinary responsibilities and activities of his life. There was no subsequent known activity from him that established he was alive after March 6.

Searches and a Growing Mystery

Law enforcement conducted search warrants and extensive searches of areas connected with Morgan’s disappearance. Authorities also appealed to hunters and property owners to watch for clothing, human remains or other potential evidence.

The investigation eventually involved numerous local, state, federal and international law-enforcement resources, including the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin Statewide Intelligence Center, FBI, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, INTERPOL and local police departments.

Despite those efforts, Morgan was not found.

His family continued publicly campaigning for information. Vigils were held, appeals were made through social media and authorities repeatedly asked anyone with knowledge of Morgan’s disappearance to come forward.

What Investigators Now Allege Happened to Jon Morgan

Nearly six years after Morgan disappeared, the case took its most significant turn.

In February 2026, authorities arrested and charged Desiree Osman in connection with Morgan’s death.

According to reporting based on the criminal complaint, Osman was interviewed multiple times during the investigation. Prosecutors allege she purchased heroin in Milwaukee on March 5, 2020, returned to the King area and provided heroin that she and Morgan used.

The criminal complaint describes statements Osman allegedly made during interviews with investigators. According to those records, she eventually acknowledged that she had been the last person to see Morgan alive. During an August 2020 interview, investigators confronted her about having knowledge of what happened to him, and she reportedly stated that Morgan was dead.

Those statements represented a substantially different picture from the original account that Morgan had simply walked away from the residence.

Investigators Believe Morgan’s Body Was Moved

Authorities now allege Morgan died at or in connection with events at the King residence and that his body was subsequently removed.

Investigators have said they believe Morgan’s body was moved from the residence. Prosecutors further alleged that Osman could not have moved Morgan by herself, raising the possibility that another person assisted in moving or concealing his remains.

Some of the charges against Osman include a party-to-a-crime designation. That designation does not, by itself, establish the identity or criminal responsibility of another person.

Despite extensive searches, investigators have not recovered Morgan’s body.

The absence of his remains remains one of the central unresolved elements of the case.

2026 Arrest and Criminal Charges

Authorities announced a major break in the investigation on February 26, 2026.

Osman, then 31, was charged with offenses including first-degree reckless homicide, hiding a corpse as a party to a crime, delivery of heroin and felony bail jumping.

Prosecutors allege the heroin Osman supplied resulted in Morgan’s death and that she participated in concealing his body afterward.

A $100,000 cash bond was imposed during the early court proceedings.

In June 2026, a judge rejected defense efforts to dismiss the reckless-homicide and hiding-a-corpse charges and also declined to reduce the cash bond.

Case Ordered to Trial

Another significant development came on July 7, 2026.

Following a preliminary hearing, a judge determined that sufficient probable cause existed for the criminal prosecution to continue and bound Osman over for trial.

Being bound over for trial is not a finding of guilt. It means the case cleared the preliminary-hearing stage and could proceed through the criminal court process.

On July 29, 2026, Osman entered not-guilty pleas to the felony charges.

Latest Investigation and Court Information

As of the latest publicly available reporting located for this summary, Osman has pleaded not guilty and the criminal prosecution remains pending.

No trial date had been announced in the latest reporting.

Most importantly for Morgan’s family, his remains still have not been recovered. Although authorities now characterize the case as a death investigation and prosecutors have filed homicide and corpse-concealment charges, the location of Morgan’s body remains unknown.

The unanswered question that dominated the investigation for years — what happened to Jon Morgan? — now has a prosecution theory. Another question remains unresolved: Where is Jon?

Anyone with information about Morgan’s remains or circumstances surrounding his death should contact law enforcement. Information that may appear insignificant could potentially help investigators determine where Morgan was taken after his death.

All criminal allegations against Desiree Osman remain allegations. She has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
