Luke M. Benoit Case
Luke M. Benoit vanished on June 28, 2022, from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, leaving behind his wife and four children. More than three years later, investigators continue to seek answers regarding what happened during the hours leading up to his disappearance.
According to investigators, Benoit was last seen in the Boyd’s Lane area of Portsmouth during the afternoon of June 28. Earlier that day, surveillance footage showed him stopping at a Neon Marketplace convenience store, where he purchased two packs of cigarettes, two bottles of water, and a bottle of ginger ale. Shortly afterward, he placed what would become his final known phone calls to his wife and other family members. During those conversations, relatives reported that Benoit made statements causing concern for his well-being.
Authorities said Benoit’s cellphone remained active for several more hours. The final known signal reportedly occurred during the early morning hours of June 29 near the Sakonnet River Bridge. After that point, the phone stopped transmitting location data and has never been recovered. His financial accounts have reportedly shown no confirmed activity since his disappearance.
Luke is described as a white male standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall with brown eyes, dark brown hair, and a beard at the time he disappeared. He has distinctive forearm tattoos reading “Carter” and “Emilia,” the names of two of his children. He was reportedly wearing a gray Adidas T-shirt and a gray-and-black baseball cap when he was last seen.
Search efforts involved Portsmouth Police and multiple assisting agencies. Investigators searched wooded areas, waterways, and locations identified through cellphone data and witness information. Public appeals have also generated numerous tips over the years, although none have led to Luke’s whereabouts being confirmed.
