Detailed Case Breakdown
Corrine Danielle Johansen Missing in Superior, Wisconsin: What Happened and Where the Investigation Stands
Corrine Danielle Johansen, a 40-year-old mother from Superior, Wisconsin, disappeared on August 5, 2025, after leaving her residence near Superior High School without shoes. Her disappearance prompted searches involving local law enforcement, rescue teams, drones, K9 teams, volunteers and members of the community.
Johansen was described at the time she disappeared as approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and 130 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. She has a distinctive black leopard-print tattoo on her shoulder. Her family has also described a physical condition affecting the position of her head and neck.
What Happened on August 5, 2025
According to information released by Superior Police, officers were dispatched to Johansen’s residence at approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 5 after her 18-year-old son reported concerning and unusual behavior.
Police reports described Johansen as throwing objects, speaking incoherently and not wearing clothing. Police, fire personnel and paramedics responded. Johansen briefly spoke with responders at the door, but officers ultimately did not enter the residence because authorities said they did not have legal grounds to force entry.
Later that afternoon, exterior security footage captured Johansen leaving the residence by jumping approximately 10 feet from a second-story balcony. She was barefoot.
Johansen was reportedly wearing a dark blue or navy tank top and light gray or gray sweatpants. She was seen running in the direction of Superior High School.
At approximately 6:55 p.m., Johansen’s 15-year-old daughter reported her mother missing. Her vehicle remained at the residence.
Search Begins Across Superior
Police initially checked the surrounding area and began investigating reported sightings. As concern increased, Johansen was entered into the National Crime Information Center as a missing person.
Friends and relatives also organized searches.
Authorities received possible sightings from locations ranging from Superior and Duluth to Ashland and Ely. Police subsequently said the reported sightings they investigated did not establish Johansen’s whereabouts.
On August 11, the investigation was assigned to the Superior Police Department Detective Bureau as a high-priority case.
Johansen’s Belongings Found Near Railroad Tracks
A potentially important development came on August 11 when searchers located prescription pill bottles and a debit card belonging to Johansen near the railroad tracks around North 28th Street.
A drone from the Duluth Police Department was brought in to search the surrounding area, but authorities reported that the operation did not locate additional evidence leading to Johansen.
Two days later, on August 13, police investigated footprints approximately 20 yards south of North 28th Street near a railroad access road.
Some appeared to be barefoot impressions while others appeared to have been made by shoes. Officers photographed and measured the impressions and again used a drone, although thick vegetation and fading daylight complicated the search.
Authorities could not conclusively establish that the footprints belonged to Johansen.
Corrine Johansen’s Cell Phone Discovered
Another major discovery occurred on August 17.
Searchers located Johansen’s cell phone near railroad tracks by Superior High School. Other material was found in the vicinity, including what was described as a dried red substance.
Testing determined that the red material was not blood.
The discovery resulted in a large coordinated search involving the Superior Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office personnel, the Superior Police Emergency Response Team, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and community volunteers.
Search operations continued into August 18.
Investigators Review Surveillance Video
Investigators expanded their effort to reconstruct Johansen’s movements through Superior.
Superior Police Chief Paul Winterscheidt said investigators were contacting businesses within approximately a four-mile radius and reviewing available surveillance footage.
Police also encouraged residents and businesses to examine doorbell cameras, security systems and other recordings for possible images of Johansen.
Searchers were asked to pay particular attention to wooded areas, outbuildings and other places that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Community Keeps Corrine’s Case Visible
Johansen’s family, friends and members of the Superior community continued organizing searches and awareness efforts as the weeks passed.
On August 31, supporters gathered at Superior’s Central Park for an event called “Hope for Corrine.” The gathering was intended to keep attention on her disappearance and support her family while the search continued.
Authorities continued investigating reported sightings and other leads, but publicly reported sightings had not established where Johansen went after leaving the area around her home.
Additional Search Involving the U.S. Coast Guard
As the investigation continued, Superior Police requested assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Police Chief Winterscheidt later said investigators did not have credible information specifically indicating Johansen was in the water, but the Coast Guard search was conducted as another effort to eliminate possibilities.
Nothing was found during that search.
Police continued describing Johansen’s disappearance as a high-priority investigation.
November 2025 Search Brings K9 Teams and Drones Back to the Area
One of the most significant later search operations occurred on November 3, 2025.
The St. Louis County and Sawyer County Rescue Squads assisted Superior Police with another coordinated search near Johansen’s last-known area around North 28th Street and Catlin Avenue.
The operation included several trained K9 teams, drones and experienced search personnel.
Superior Police reported on November 6 that the intensive search did not produce new information concerning Johansen’s location.
Authorities nevertheless said the investigation remained active.
Latest Publicly Available Investigation Information
The latest substantive law-enforcement search update located during a review of publicly available sources concerned the November 3, 2025 search and was reported on November 6.
That search did not locate Johansen or provide publicly announced evidence explaining her disappearance.
Authorities continued requesting information from the public and specifically encouraged people entering wooded and remote areas to watch for anything that could be connected to the case as seasonal vegetation diminished.
No reliable public information located through September 22, 2026 establishes that Corrine Johansen has been found, and the available law-enforcement reporting continues to characterize the matter as a missing-person investigation.
Anyone with information should provide it directly to the Superior Police Department. For an immediate sighting or urgent information, authorities have instructed the public to call 911.
