Police searched the apartment the couple shared but reported finding nothing unusual. Investigators nevertheless focused considerable attention on the boyfriend because of information they received about their relationship. Investigators also considered other people. Police questioned two individuals who had reportedly been at the bar on the night Mohn vanished, and testing conducted in connection with one apartment did not produce evidence that resolved the case.

Did Dawn Enter the Fox River?

The nearby Fox River became another focus of the investigation.

According to case information compiled by The Charley Project, Mohn was reportedly known to sleep near the river when she was intoxicated. Cadaver dogs later alerted to a section of the river, but technological limitations prevented investigators at the time from conducting the type of underwater search they wanted. Radar did not locate anything conclusive. The relevant river area was subsequently dredged.

New Searches More Than Two Decades Later

The Fox River evidence eventually led investigators somewhere else.

In an August 2023 interview with WBAY, Detective Biller explained that investigators determined where material dredged from the river had been deposited in Brown County. Police identified three areas associated with that material and brought in cadaver dogs from southern Wisconsin to search them.

At the time of the WBAY report, two of the three locations had been searched, and investigators expected the cadaver-dog team to return to conduct the final search. This represented one of the most significant publicly reported investigative developments in Mohn’s case in years.

Police have also continued checking government records for indications that Mohn might still be alive, including Social Security records. Her DNA has been entered into national databases, and information about her disappearance has been distributed through state and national missing-person systems. Her case was also featured on playing cards distributed to inmates in an effort to generate information.
