Scott Edward McDonald’s 1990 Disappearance Remains an Unsolved Alaska Mystery

Scott Edward McDonald was 27 years old when he vanished from Kenai, Alaska, on October 31, 1990. More than three decades later, investigators still classify his disappearance as suspicious, and no confirmed sightings or physical evidence have explained what happened to him.

According to investigators, McDonald spent part of Halloween evening visiting a friend before returning to his home on K-Beach Road. After arriving home, he reportedly filled a bowl with candy for trick-or-treaters. Sometime afterward, he disappeared without explanation.

One of the most puzzling aspects of the investigation is that McDonald’s vehicle remained parked outside his residence. There were no obvious indications that he had voluntarily left the area, and he has never accessed financial accounts or contacted family or friends since that night, leading authorities to believe foul play may have been involved.

At the time of his disappearance, McDonald was described as standing between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 175 to 185 pounds. He had brown hair, blue eyes, several scars, and a birthmark. He was believed to have been wearing:

  • A tan down jacket with a taped repair between the shoulder blades
  • Blue checkered shirt
  • White “Jamaica” T-shirt
  • Blue jeans
  • Purple and white Converse high-top sneakers

Investigators have released very little publicly regarding possible suspects or investigative leads. The Alaska State Troopers continue to classify the case as an endangered missing person investigation under suspicious circumstances.
