Main circumstances: Mackenzie Rae Marken disappeared from her home in central Wisconsin on October 11, 2015. Investigators initially had circumstances consistent with her possibly leaving voluntarily, but she never returned and has not been confirmed seen or heard from since. Investigators have examined her friends, relationships, technology and social-media activity. Ten years later, police were still interviewing people connected to Mackenzie and seeking new information about what happened to her.
The Disappearance of Mackenzie Rae Marken
Mackenzie Rae Marken was 14 years old and a freshman at Mosinee High School when she disappeared from central Wisconsin in October 2015. She was last seen at her home in Weston on Sunday, October 11, and her family reported her missing the following day. Wisconsin’s missing-person clearinghouse lists her as missing since October 11, 2015, from Schofield in Marathon County.
Mackenzie was approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 150 pounds when she disappeared. She had brown hair and brown eyes, wore eyeglasses with purple frames and may have been wearing black combat-style boots. She may use the last name Doll, the surname used by her mother and stepfather.
What Happened on October 11, 2015?
According to Marathon County Crime Stoppers, Mackenzie left her residence in Weston at about 7 a.m. on October 11, before other members of her family were awake. She subsequently did not appear at school, and friends reportedly had not heard from her.
Local records say reported sightings later placed someone believed to be Mackenzie near River Park in Mosinee and near Mosinee High School on October 16, 2015. Those reports did not result in Mackenzie being located, and there has been no publicly confirmed sighting establishing her whereabouts since her disappearance.
Police searched locations where Mackenzie or other teenagers might spend time and followed up with people who knew her, including friends, classmates and people with whom she may have had relationships. By 2023, investigators said the case contained more than 100 reports and various forms of digital, physical and other information.
Investigators Examined Mackenzie’s Online Activity
Mackenzie had previously left home on two occasions and was found with friends, according to information compiled by The Charley Project. Authorities therefore believed she may initially have left voluntarily. This time, however, she never returned.
After her disappearance, her family reportedly discovered that Mackenzie had been communicating online with people they did not know and had used applications or other methods to conceal some of that activity. This aspect of the case has fueled public theories concerning online grooming or trafficking, but no such scenario has been publicly confirmed by investigators.
In a 2023 interview, Detective Sergeant Dan Goff declined to reveal many specifics about the evidence investigators had obtained. He explained that investigators had examined technology and social-media platforms as part of the case and said releasing certain information could compromise evidence if it became important later.
An Open Investigation, Not a Closed Case
Despite the passage of years, police have repeatedly said Mackenzie’s disappearance remains an active investigation.
In the 2023 interview, Goff described the investigation as open and continually ongoing. He said investigators continued receiving information, sometimes in spurts, although the passage of time creates difficulties involving memories and physical evidence.
The investigating agency has since changed names. Everest Metro Police Department consolidated with the Rothschild Police Department, creating what is now the Mountain Bay Metropolitan Police Department, which became the investigating agency for Mackenzie’s case.
Ten Years Later, Detectives Were Still Re-Interviewing People
The tenth anniversary of Mackenzie’s disappearance brought renewed public attention to the investigation in October 2025.
Mountain Bay Metro Police Detective Lexi Meier told WSAW NewsChannel 7 that investigators were continuing to revisit the case and speak with people who knew Mackenzie. That included friends, family members and others who may know something about the circumstances surrounding October 11, 2015.
Police stressed that the age of the information should not discourage anyone from contacting investigators. Even information someone has withheld for years could potentially help authorities determine what happened.
A $1,000 reward was also being offered in October 2025 for information leading to Mackenzie’s whereabouts.
Police Asked Wisconsin Hunters for Help
Another significant public investigative effort came in November 2025.
As Wisconsin’s gun deer season approached, the Mountain Bay Metropolitan Police Department specifically asked hunters to remain alert while traveling through wooded and rural areas. Investigators asked anyone encountering suspicious clothing, possible human remains or other unusual items not to disturb them, but instead to mark the location using GPS and immediately contact law enforcement.
The request demonstrated that investigators were continuing to seek evidence a decade after Mackenzie vanished.
Earlier in 2025, authorities also partnered with Karl’s Transport to place Mackenzie’s missing-person information and an age-progressed image on a semi-trailer traveling around the country. The effort was intended to expose her case to people far beyond central Wisconsin.
Latest Information on the Investigation
As of the latest information located for this article, Mackenzie has not been publicly reported found, and her case remains listed by Wisconsin authorities as an active missing-child case. The Wisconsin Clearinghouse currently lists her as missing since October 11, 2015, and shows her current age as 25.
The most recent substantive public investigative action located was Mountain Bay Metro’s November 2025 request asking hunters to watch for possible evidence. In October 2025, Detective Lexi Meier confirmed investigators were still going back through Mackenzie’s relationships and speaking with people who knew her.
The Doe Network also recorded an update to Mackenzie’s case file, 3944DFWI, on August 29, 2025. Its later update records through 2026 do not list Mackenzie among the organization’s closed cases.
No publicly released information located establishes that Mackenzie was murdered, trafficked or remains voluntarily missing. Those remain possibilities discussed in various sources rather than established conclusions. Law enforcement’s publicly stated objective remains determining where Mackenzie is and what happened after she left home.
